Two friends, one a hopeless romantic and the other afraid of commitment, have embarked on the ultimate dating test: Jessica Walsh, 26, and Timothy Goodman, 32, both designers based in New York, have been friends for four years; but after finding themselves single at the same time, they decided 'dating' each other would be a worth-while experiment.

Part social experiment, part design project , the pair document each day on Forty Days of Dating , as they navigate the 'friend zone' while exploring their habits and fears in relationships , on a quest to find possible true love. Miss Walsh, a 'who jumps into relationships very quickly,' explained that Mr Goodman's relationship patterns as the 'opposite' of hers on day one of their experiment. We also have a tight group of friends, and I think we are both afraid to compromise that.
But the pair committed to seeing each other every day over the course of 40 days between March and April, even just for a quick coffee; going on dates three times a week - from basketball games to beauty spas and art gallery openings - and also saw a couple's therapist once a week.
But to add suspense to their journey, the duo are releasing each day from now until August At day 14, released July 22nd, with the pair yet to enter the physical realm of a romantic relationship, Mr Goodman writes: On many levels, I am enjoying this. It was on day two that the pair went to their first couples therapy session, which forced them to discuss the more awkward topics they may not have talked about on our own. After some awkward glances, we both admitted that we do find each other attractive. The therapist then asked why that had never tried dating in the four years they have known each other.
Miss Walsh, a 'hopeless romantic who jumps into relationships very quickly,' explained that Mr Goodman's relationship patterns as the 'opposite' of hers on day one of their experiment. He loves the freedom of the single life. But by day four, Mr Goodman admitted: And at day five, the possibility of sex crossed him mind: But I must say that I was really enjoying her company today. I started thinking about possibilities.
While a few friends and colleagues of Miss Walsh said they think physical intimacy is a necessary part of the project, and didn't believe that their experiment was a 'real relationship' without it, Miss Walsh disagreed,. Mr Goodman, however, admitted to feeling 'pressured' into defining what they were doing any further.

Not ready to commit: Mr Goodman, a self-described commitment-phobe, said 'It had been a long time since I let someone get close to me, and that was important'. They settled on a day timeline, and agreed on six rules: In an attempt to explore and hopefully overcome their fears and inadequacies, Tim and Jessica will go through the motions of a relationship for the next 40 days: Can they help each other, or will they fall into their same habits?
Will they damage their friendship? What if they fall in love? What if they fall in love? In order to focus on each other and the project, the two friends created a set of rules to follow. Would you do it? How are the couple doing?
